It’s not a wedding without a cake! Wedding cakes are possibly the biggest thing in the wedding right next to the bride’s gown.
Layers: While in the past years we’ve heard the bigger the better, this just isn’t the case anymore. The average size of a traditional cake has been four to five layers. Now a days, it’s smaller weddings and fewer guests making it less cake. For this season brides are sticking to a three layer, simple cake.
Cake Décor: Cakes are decorated with handmade icing flowers, shells, starfish and delicate dots and scrollwork. Couples will be choosing cakes that fit their location, theme and season of their wedding. Flowers, sculptures, and large monogrammed letters are replacing the traditional bride and groom cake top. Less tacky more classy!

Wedding Décor: Brides are incorporating more antique yet sentimental heirlooms into their weddings, which creates a timeless romantic feel.
Location: Outdoor weddings are a must to set the mood just right. The color trends are falling in temperature. This season has been mostly a pastel palette with hints of deep red or fuchsia. The Groom’s Suit: Grooms are also steeping out of their penguin suit. Instead of a black traditional tuxedo our grooms of 2011 are stepping up their style with a slate grey or even a deep navy suit instead.
The Gown: Strapless gowns are perennial favorites. Brides are throwing on dramatic ball gown dresses with all of those extravagant layers (that we left off of those cakes)! Designers draped, ruched, and layered clouds of tulle, power netting, and chiffon for limitless volume for fairytale-inspired bridal style and whimsical wedding dresses in 2011.
